Emma Branderhorst is a 28-year-old Amsterdam-based director known for her authentic, cinematic storytelling that addresses social themes from a female perspective. Her films transform heavy topics like period poverty, war, and shaming into personal narratives with a ‘slice of life’ approach, resonating deeply with audiences. Starting her career as an actress in a small Dutch town, Emma transitioned to directing after studying at the Art Academy in Utrecht. Her debut short, *Under the Skin* (2021), premiered at Berlinale Generation, followed by *Spotless* (2022), which earned international acclaim, including the Krystal Bear at Berlinale, qualifying for the 2023 Oscars. Her recent short, *Ma Mère et Moi* (2023), continued her success at Berlinale.
